Aahh… another Work in Progress Wednesday… I really do feel like my life for the past month or so has really been measured by what I have to show for myself on Wednesdays. And alas… it is with heavy heart that I again fall short of grandeur this week friends. Again, much crafting has been of the computer persuasion with Isadora… excuses excuses… but I promise all will reveal itself in due time!
At any rate here’s what I have to show for myself this week…
A failed set of chones.

- P.S. Guava failed to flip the picture but the motto of the Revolution is actually the correct direction!
Finally sewed up from a couple of weeks ago…. now the fabrics not my fave which is fine as it’s just a tester out of pillow scraps but they did come out awkwardly more childlike than I initially intended. Also, notice how I’m displaying them on a book??? I’d like to say it’s because I’m an elegant and demure lady of class but really it’s because I couldn’t get them past my lower thigh… now mind you I’ve been working on my fitness so I do have illustrious Xena Warrior Princess- Like Legs…
and I’ve been toying with the idea of spin class with my personal fitness guru to increase my Xena Like qualities… but still somehow my measuring went horribly wrong as I don’t think I could have possibly (even in all my delusional self confidence) gained 2 inches of muscle mass per thigh working out once or twice a week for the past two weeks… I guess it’s possible… but highly unlikely.
So where do I think this all went wrong?? Well, let me first preface that I watched this tutorial from an undisclosed location in fast forward and without sound so it may very well have said this but here are my notes anway. Should you choose to endeavor into chone making (and it was awfully fun and still has a lot of potential I think) remember that when you cut up old chones to use as a pattern take into consideration what type of material they are made out of. If you cut up stretchy materialed chones (which most are) you can’t precede to cut a pattern from them in their unstretched form… not take into account seams and other shrinking factors and expect them to fit over your legs. Your pattern will probably look incredibly huge… don’t let this scare you… (a) Because we’re declaring a truce with our bodies and no longer worrying about such silliness, (b) because you want your chones to have that cute little bunchy bloomer effect and (c) because you want something other than your fiction collection to be able to wear them.
On the upside I was pretty satisfied with how the construction all went down and I think there is a definite future for Revolutionary Underpants in the works. So now if anyone is extremely tiny or knows someone of the tiny persuasion or is normal sized but doesn’t have my illustrious Xena-like thighs or has a feminist chihuahua and would like a pair of chones that aim to Deconstruct the Shackles of the Patriarchy please let me know and I’ll be happy to send them your way!
For reference I’m a 5 in chones (not pants… I’m like a 8-9 but just have an awkward dreidel like shape and one flat okole) so even if you’re thinking it might possibly work or you have a baby shower to go to and need a unique gift… please feel free to convo me.. it really would make me supremely happy to have these floating about the universe!
Happy Crafting!
