Ergh… is it Monday ALREADY???
Where does the weekend go friends?? Oh right… I was busy pool partying, craft fairing, vegan restaurant visiting and generally scampering about town. That’s why (a) I think I’m more tired and grumpy than on Friday (b) my house is a disaster zone and (c) I’ll have to see what I can get together for Wednesday as I didn’t do very much crafting this weekend. Nevertheless… some of the highlights of what I was doing that I wasn’t supposed to be doing during the time when I should have been doing other things…
First, off at the last minute (and after deciding it was too far and I was actually going to craft rather than look at crafts) Mr. Guava carted me all the way out to LA to check out LA’s very first Renegade Craft Fair!
… you know… to do some research for the empire…hehee… Swirling above the City of Angels on the 13th floor of California Market Center were over 200 artists worth of inspiration that the Handmade Revolution was both here and happening! There were quite a few people as well.. although… I’d be curious to see how everyone did as it didn’t seem like there were very many actual purchases taking place… hopefully I’m wrong on that count.
Also, maybe this is just Guava not being able to turn off my super sensitive “Gender Lens” but I felt like I noticed this pretty stark split in crafts… seemed like all the big screen printers and metal smiths were men whereas the female booths tended to have a lot of kid merch and the jewelry that they did tended to be beading. Not that that’s bad… I’m all about us taking back the homecrafts that can actually be created in the home but I also felt like their was a little of the politics missing… could have just been the space… like it was more about trends than taking a stance on big business and reclaiming individuality???
Still… pretty awesome to see such a big fair put together and totally motivating to me to get my stuff going so I can be at that level! Furthermore… the trip to LA was totally worth it because we got to catch up with some friends and try out Real Food Daily in Santa Monica…
Mr. Guava and I split the Supreme Burrito and a Caesar Salad (Mr. Guava’s pre-vegan fave) and our friends got the Tofu Wrap and Living Wrap. Sorry, no pics… I can’t believe I really didn’t take pics of anything this weekend. Lazy Days I suppose plus I had major allergies… I think I’m allergic to LA… literally I started sneezing when we hit Staples Center on the freeway… haha…
We also hopped over to the bakery and got us some Coffee Cake for dessert! Nom Nom NOM… a little pricey but totally worth it!!! Everything was delish plus we had the really funny (read awkward) experience of standing behind this guy who kept asking for meat on different sandwiches…
first he was like “So do you guys have tuna salad??”and the lady behind the counter trying to be polite, “Sorry, sir, we’re all Vegan.” (guys nods) and then says… “Can I get a beef patty on this burger???”
errr… FAIL. Hahaha! I was actually quite amused. Give the omni’s a taste of some of the awkward convos we have at restaurants right?
At any rate hope all ya’ll had as much fun and were as non-productive as I was this weekend… will do my best on the catching up!
Love,
Guava
