Random Guava Election Rant

4 11 2008

So someone in my office came back with free coffee for voting which reminded me of something I heard on the radio yesterday which I will now commence to rant about [disclaimer... not verbatim... ]…

Radio Host 1(Male): Did you hear about all the free stuff they’re giving away for voting?

Radio Host 2 (Male): Yeah… did you hear that [Insert Sextoy Store: Will insert real link to awesome store when not on work computer] are giving away free sex toys?

Radio Host 1(Male): Apparently, for women, they’re giving away something called a …uh [shuffling paper]… Silver Bullet?! Which is a MINI vibrator??

Both Radio Hosts Chortling: Guffaw… guffaw…haha… “Mini?? MINI??”

Radio Host 2: Doesn’t that defeat the purpose? [more guffawing]

Radio Host 3 (Female): [guffawing] Supposedly, it’s a $20 value!! Apparently, they’re a [shuffling papers] “sex positive” store.

[[Lots of guffawing and incredulous snorts and exclamations...]]

Mr. Guava looks over at me timidly waiting for an explosion as I snicker irritatedly at the radio in disbelief… I know I should be overwhelmed with a sense of hope as we come upon this “historical” election… and I am… but then I hear things as silly as this… and see things, as offensive as, Yes on 8/”Protect Families” signs… and as ridiculous as listening to people shout the praises of Prop 4 while simultaneously riling themselves up into mob panic about teen pregnancies being on the rise… and hear things as scary as people waving guns on over passes… and leaving dead bears on campuses… and planning conspiracies laden with white supremacy symbolism and I think… damn the thought of how far we have yet to go is seriously oppressive and overwhelming…

Mr. Guava Approved Fu Scramble!

4 11 2008

Hi all!! So weird that I wasn’t on my WordPress account at all yesterday… I swear I’m not dropping off the planet after Vegan MoFo I just sort of needed to take a mental health day… not from ya’ll but life in general. At any rate it doesn’t mean that the Vegan Goodness stopped a coming (I have a great Family Dinner/Vegan Success story to post about from this weekend) although I will have to get some more craftiness up now that MoFo is over I hope ya’ll don’t mind…. in fact I’m cooking up a little MoFo craftiness and I’ll keep you updated. At any rate I hope you all haven’t forgotten me yet, I hope everyone’s heading out to vote in this mucky weather, I hope my container crops don’t drown, and I hope my Vagina’s as hopeful tomorrow as it is today! To get you through the cold weather and the election jitters I offer you straight up simple loving comfort… my favorite…

fu-scrambleFU SCRAMBLE!!!

Yep… I made it through MoFo without posting a Fu Scramble so I think in the midst of all this culinary high class decadence I give a little shoutout to simplicity and a pretty kickin’ Fu Scramble… Guava Approved AND, more impressively, MR GUAVA Approved who sweared off of it since an unfortunate first Fu Scramble disaster nearly a year ago… here we go…

Slice some potatoes up real thin and throw in with some olive oil.

Sprinkle with Lemon Pepper and Garlic Salt and let sim simma.

While these are a cookin’ up to a nice brown gorgeousness crumble your drained tofu onto a plate and sprinkle with salt, pepper, nutritional yeast, and a little shoyu over the top to help everything soak in.

When your potatoes are nearly done, translucent and slightly crisped add in your tofu and let brown slightly before throwing in a handful of whatever gorgeous greens you have on hand… spinach is always delicious but any green goodness should do. I had to add a little extra sprinkle of oil at this point and threw in some extra pepper while I was at it ( I just got one of those peppercorn grinders and haven’t been able to exercise any sort of restraint).

Serve up with some toast and you’re warm, full, energized, and ready for a jaunt at the Farmer’s Market where you buy way more veggies than any person could possibly eat without turning vaguely seaweed colored… I have to remember that when my arm feels like it might dislocate from my shoulder it’s probably time to stop.

Don’t forget to go vote!! And keep all of our Guavas in mind when you go do it!

Yes on 2, No on 4, No on 8
